|SCIENCE.naturalnews.com allows you to explore the scientific literature by almost any keyword or concept imaginable. Over 7,000 concepts — including disease names, drug names and nutrients — have been indexed across the entire library of scientific literature. Each concept is also statistically related to other concepts so that you can find hidden relationships in the science. For example, studies on “milk” are most frequently related to the concept of “allergies.”You can see all the studies on “milk” at this page:
And you can see all the studies on “allergies” at this page:
Or, better yet, you can see all the studies on “milk and allergies” at this page:
There are tens of thousands of other examples of such relationships found throughout the website. SCIENCE.naturalnews.com is the first and only system in the world to discover and publish these relationships across the scientific literature.
Share, comment and link
In addition to being able to easily discover important relationships among millions of scientific studies, SCIENCE.naturalnews.com allows you to share the studies, post comments on studies and link back to the studies using a shortcut link.
This makes it easy to share fascinating new science with your friends, such as this study that reveals howchlorella causes cancer cells to commit suicide(apoptosis and DNA damage to cancer cells):
Or check out this study on the fact that everyday hamburgers contain as little as 2% actual meat, with the rest being water and fillers:
Created and programmed by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
I created SCIENCE.naturalnews.com to provide an easy-to-use tool that would allow consumers, bloggers, writers and researchers to easily located scientific answers to common questions about nutrition, foods, pharmaceuticals and more.
Based on data provided by the taxpayer-funded National Library of Medicine, SCIENCE.naturalnews.com is being launched with three million scientific studies and is on track to grow by one million new studies each week until it reaches the full capacity of all known scientific studies tracked by the NLM.
Within a few months, the entire body of published scientific papers available today will be found at SCIENCE.naturalnews.com, categorized and indexed into 24 commonsense categories such as “superfoods” or “heavy metals.”
SCIENCE.naturalnews.com uses advanced “signal detection” algorithms I personally developed here at Natural News, a natural health news and activism site that now reaches over 5.5 million unique visitors each month.
These algorithms allow us to discover hidden patterns in large sets of data, then to publish those patterns on the web so that millions of people around the world can benefit from the quantum leap in knowledge enabled by this technology. When you browse SCIENCE.naturalnews.com, you are in effectbypassing thousands of hours of research it might have traditionally taken to identify such patterns and relationships.
What used to take hundreds of hours of research can now be located in minutes. And when people ask you, “Well, what’s the proof that curcumin helps reverse cancer and arthritis,” you can easily find and share those pages:
Expect minor glitches: Still in beta state
Keep in mind that SCIENCE.naturalnews.com is in a beta state, and minor glitches should be expected.
Also, Google has not fully spidered the site yet, so searches won’t yet yield satisfying results. Over time, however, this will automatically improve, allowing you to use the front-page search function to find almost anything you wish.
In addition, we are constantly adding new concepts to the system. For example, in testing the site today I realized we never indexed the phrase, “kidney damage.” So I’m adding “kidney damage” to the vocabulary of the system so that it gets properly indexed and compared to other concepts. This will allow you to find lists of scientific studies on concepts like “kidney damage and cadmium.”
We’re also added classes of drugs to the system such as “beta blockers” and “antidepressants” so that you can search for side effects by drug classes, not just individual drug names.
The bottom line is that SCIENCE.naturalnews.com is off the ground and usable right now, and at the same time it’s going to keep getting better and more comprehensive in the weeks ahead.
SCIENCE made possible through your support
In launching this project, I want to thank all the Natural News readers, sponsors and store customers who made this project possible. The investment in this system was in the six-figures-plus range, and this will cost us just under $10,000 / month to keep online… and that’s just for starters. If traffic becomes large, that monthly bill will substantially increase.
This project was entirely funded by ad revenue and store sales. We do not apply for — nor accept — government grants of any kind. We engage in R&D and scientific endeavors because it is the right thing to do, relying on the entrepreneurial spirit of innovation and American ingenuity.
Keep in mind this announcement is just one of THREE key content announcements we are making this year. The next “content realm” announcement will be made public very soon, perhaps within two weeks. And the third major announcement will be made closer to the end of this calendar year (if we can keep the R&D on track).
All of these announcements offer extraordinary knowledge benefits to the public and place Natural News in a category all its own as the leader in not just news and activism content, but scientific knowledge that can help empower and inspire tens of millions of people all around the world.
Thank you for your continued support, and with that support, we will continue to march forward, unleashing extraordinary tools of knowledge and wisdom that help uplift humanity. You can help support this effort by using SCIENCE.naturalnews.com as a research and reference tool while linking to or sharing study pages found there.
Thank you for your continued support!
(NaturalNews) One of the biggest health myths is the idea that a person can get all the nutrition s/he needs by simply eating a balanced diet. The truth is that it is next to impossible to get even the minimal RDA amounts of the limited number of vitamins and minerals on the RDA list, much less the amounts of all the many nutrients needed for optimal health from diet alone.
Decades of over-farming has left the world’s top soils severely depleted of essential minerals. For the most part, the only minerals replaced have been those needed for optimal growth and not vital minerals such as magnesium which are needed for optimal health.
Foods on our grocers’ shelves frequently have had true nutrition processed out (and often harmful additives processed in to enhance shelf life, taste, color and texture). In many instances most of the claimed nutrition comes from added synthetic petrochemical vitamins and crushed rock minerals – which are vastly inferior to natural vitamins and minerals found in food.
This author has repeatedly challenged balanced-diet proponents to devise a weekly 2000 to 2500 calorie a day diet plan which provides all of just the measly nutrient amounts on the limited RDA chart. Thus far no one has come close. Keep in mind that in many instances RDA amounts of vitamins and minerals are merely the theoretical amounts needed to prevent deficiency-related illness. Besides the fact that RDA amounts are often far below the optimal amounts, the RDA list does not include literally hundreds of other valuable nutrients which we have evolved and adapted to utilize.
If it is so easy to get all the nutrition needed from diet alone, why is it that up to 95% of us are deficient in magnesium? For that matter, why is it that most of us are deficient in other vital nutrients as well – even those of us who regularly eat a so-called balanced diet?
Another related myth is the idea that doctors are good sources of information and advice about diet and nutrition. In most instances, mainstream doctors are woefully deficient in information about diet and nutrition. Doctors are taught in medical schools where the primary funding source is the pharmaceutical industry and where curriculum is controlled by the AMA. Not surprisingly, doctors are taught that the way to treat illness is to prescribe drug company medications and to perform mainstream medical treatments. What they are not taught is the vital role that diet and proper nutrition play in our health.
One longtime doctor turned naturopath told this author that during his entire mainstream education he had but one single lecture on diet and nutrition. Other doctors, including more recent graduates, confirmed that their educational experience was much the same when it came to diet and nutrition.
In the world of mainstream health misinformation about vegetable and fruit servings, a serving of a fortified “fruit drink” is considered equal to a bowl of fresh organic blueberries and an order of french fries is equal to a bowl of fresh organic spinach.
A good plan for obtaining plenty of nutrition to insure a maximum of good health and a minimum of illness is:
1. Eat a healthy and varied nutrient-dense diet with as many fresh organic items as possible.
2. Avoid junk foods, processed foods and inorganic meats – especially processed meat products.
3. Utilize supplemental items such as organic superfood powders and whole food derived nutrients to insure that you get all the vital kinds and amounts of nutrition needed.

Sulfur is the third most abundant mineral in your body, after calcium and phosphorous. It’s an important mineral element that you get almost wholly through dietary proteins, yet it’s been over 20 years since the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) issued its last update on recommended daily allowances (RDA) for it.
In a study examining critical elements about how sulfur works in the body, researchers say the importance of this mineral may be underestimated, and that it’s possible that we may not be getting enough of it.
The Importance of Sulfur
Close to half of the sulfur in your body can be found in your muscles, skin and bones, but it does much more than benefit just these three areas. It plays important roles in many bodily systems.
Sulfur bonds are required for proteins to maintain their shape, and these bonds determine the biological activity of the proteins. For example, as explained in the featured MSM newsletter, hair and nails consists of a tough protein called keratin, which is high in sulfur, whereas connective tissue and cartilage contain proteins with flexible sulfur bonds, giving the structure its flexibility. With age, the flexible tissues in your body tend to lose their elasticity, leading to sagging and wrinkling of skin, stiff muscles and painful joints.
A shortage of sulfur likely contributes to these age-related problems.
In addition to bonding proteins, sulfur is also required for the proper structure and biological activity of enzymes. If you don’t have sufficient amounts of sulfur in your body the enzymes cannot function properly, which can cascade into a number of health problems as without biologically active enzymes, your metabolic processes cannot function properly.
Sulfur also plays an important role in:
Your body’s electron transport system, as part of iron/sulfur proteins in mitochondria, the energy factories of your cells
Vitamin-B thiamine (B1) and biotin conversion, which in turn are essential for converting carbohydrates into energy
Synthesizing important metabolic intermediates, such as glutathione
Proper insulin function. The insulin molecule consists of two amino acid chains connected to each other by sulfur bridges, without which the insulin cannot perform its biological activity
The featured study looked at a broad scope of overlapping metabolic pathways in order to determine which ones may be affected by insufficient intake of dietary sulfur. They also evaluated the modes of action of a variety of sulfur-containing dietary supplements, including chondroitin and glucosamine, commonly used to improve joint health.
According to the authors:
“Sulfur amino acids contribute substantially to the maintenance and integrity of the cellular systems by influencing cellular redox state and the capacity to detoxify toxic compounds, free radicals and reactive oxygen species.
… Sulfur containing metabolites, of which glutathione is a key exponent, merge in their functioning with many other compounds that play a major role in mechanisms which are receiving tremendous interests as parts of conventional and complementary medical care. These include the n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, minerals such as Selenium, Zinc, Copper and Magnesium, vitamins E and C, antioxidants such as the proanthocyanidins and lipoic acid, many of which are involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins and in the antioxidant cascade.
More and more evidence is accumulating and focusing on the cooperative role that glutathione and other sulfur metabolites play in the homeostatic control of these fundamental mechanisms.”

(NaturalNews) Go ahead and tell someone that they should give their loved one, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) or Dementia, a dose of vitamin B12 that is 300 times the recommended daily intake, and they’ll probably cover their ears and run the other way or tell you they are afraid of “overdosing.”
In fact, most people don’t even know where vitamin B12 comes from, or what the body needs it for in the first place. On top of that, there are several myths about vitamin B12 that need to be dispelled, and several misconceptions of where it comes from in its most natural, most beneficial form.
There is a widespread belief that meat is the primary source of vitamin B-12; however, many nutritionists and their research reflect that cooked animal protein actually impairs the ability of the body to absorb this essential vitamin.
The vitamin is heat sensitive, and therefore normal cooking can destroy up to 90 percent of its usefulness. So then what foods do we turn to in order to find useful vitamin B-12? Although animal and dairy products are a “popular source”, the natural soil microbes and bacteria found on wild food, such as unwashed garden plants, are typically enough to supply many of your vitamin B12 needs.
In other words, organic vegetables, which most likely are not doused in pesticides, herbicides and insecticides, have exactly what the body needs. The “sterile” process of washing your vegetables is mainly known to be done to remove the chemical agents farmers use to keep away pests and bugs from destroying them, but that same “sterilizing process” also washes away soil microbes and bacteria that grow on raw fruits and vegetables, which our bodies need to duplicate in the intestinal tract for proper “assimilation” of vitamin B-12 to take place.
The ultimate source of all nature’s B-12 is manufactured by the friendly bacteria in an animal’s intestinal tract, and this is true for all vegetarian animals, including human beings.
Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease, which may have its beginnings rooting from a deficiency of vitamin B-12. Humans are born with serum levels of B-12 at about 2,000 pg/ml. This level often declines steadily throughout life, giving “credit” to common Western diet.
If consumers and natural medicine advocates can keep an open mind when addressing AD, we give our loved ones a fair chance at stopping AD in its tracks and possibly reversing dementia, and according to recent research, the earlier you address the problem, the better fighting chance you have of reducing or even defeating it.
In the early 1980′s, my grandmother Esther began showing signs and symptoms of dementia. At the time, I was about 13 years old, and when my parents brought me to visit her at my Aunt’s home, my grandmother barely recognized me.
My father said she was having problems with her memory, and then she actually walked us into a bathroom as she offered to show us her “bedroom.” Within two years, she did not recognize even her closest family members, including her husband. It was a total nightmare for the entire family, and Grandma Ester lived liked this for over ten years.
Could vitamin B-12 have been the remedy? I wish we had known about it then so we could have tried it. So clear the clouds of doubt you have about vitamin B-12. If it can’t hurt, and can only help, why wouldn’t you try it?
It’s water soluble, so if you take “too much,” your body will simply excrete the excess. There are no proven side effects. So, if a simple at home nutritional program could actually save your loved one from a degenerative disease that is considered “worse than death,” why wouldn’t you try it?
(NaturalNews) The array of undiscovered health benefits afforded by high vitamin D intake is vast thanks to several new studies linking deficiency in this important hormone to diabetes.
One study published in the journal Diabetes Care explains that a simple 25 nanomole per liter (nmol/L), or 10 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL), increase in blood levels of vitamin D results in a roughly 24 percent reduction in diabetes risk, while another study similarly reveals a correlation between high blood levels of vitamin D and reduced risk of diabetes.
Dr. Ken Sikaris and his colleague Zhong Lu, both of which are pathologists at Melbourne Pathology in Australia, tested the blood levels of 5,200 participants as part of their research. After accounting for more than ten outside risk factors that may affect outcomes, the duo found that participants with the highest blood levels of vitamin D had a significantly reduced risk of developing type-2 diabetes compared to those with the lowest levels.
“It’s hard to underestimate how important this could be,” said Dr. Sikaris concerning the findings, inferring that vitamin D is an essential weapon in the fight against diabetes.
In a related study, physician Anastassios Pittas from Tufts University evaluated 2,039 people with high blood sugar levels as part of her three year study, and found that every 12.5 nmol/L (5 ng/mL) increase in vitamin D levels resulted in an eight percent decreased risk of developing diabetes.
Participants with the highest third of vitamin D levels, above 75 nmol/L (30 ng/mL), were also 38 percent less likely to develop diabetes than those in the lowest third, which averaged 32 nmol/L (13 ng/mL).
“There are indications that vitamin D is of importance in glucose metabolism, and that supplementation with vitamin D may increase both insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity,” writes a report at ClinicalTrials.gov in response to this and other vitamin D research.
The Vitamin D Council maintains that healthy blood levels of vitamin D fall between 125 – 200 nmol/L (50 – 80 ng/mL), which can be achieved through regular sunlight exposure and supplementation with vitamin D3. To learn more, visit:

You’ve probably heard of enzymes, and you probably already know they are important for your digestion. But you may not be aware of just how necessary enzymes are to every cell in your body—not just for digestion but for ALL your physiological processes.
Enzymes are composed of amino acids and are secreted by your body to help catalyze functions that would normally not occur at physiological temperatures. They literally make magic happen and are absolutely vital to your life.
More than 3,000 different enzymes have been identified, and some experts believe there may be another 50,000 we have yet to discover. Each enzyme has a different function—like 3,000 specialized keys cut to fit 3,000 different locks. In this analogy, the locks are biochemical reactions.
Enzymes drive biological processes necessary for your body to build raw materials, circulate nutrients, eliminate unwanted chemicals, and the myriad of other biochemical processes that go on without your even thinking about it.
For starters, here are just some of the activities in your body requiring enzymes:
Absorption of oxygen
Fighting infections and healing wounds
Getting nutrients into your cells
Carrying away toxic wastes
Breaking down fats in your blood, regulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels
Dissolving blood clots
Proper hormone regulation
Slowing the aging process
And small amounts of enzymes can affect profound changes! Enzymes are the catalysts that cause many essential biochemical reactions to happen—but they are not “used up” IN the reaction. They merely assist—meaning, they accelerate reactions—sometimes to a mind-boggling several million reactions per second!
Enzymes lower the amount of energy needed for a reaction to occur. Without them, some reactions simply would not function in your body.
But enzymes don’t work alone.
Enzymes rely on other elements to accomplish their tasks, such as certain vitamins and minerals. These elements are called “coenzymes.”
You are probably already familiar with one of these—coenzyme Q10. CoQ10 is found in the mitochondria (power centers) of your cells where it is involved in making ATP, every cell’s principal energy source. Another example is magnesium, which participates in over 300 enzyme reactions.

(NaturalNews) Recently someone in my community asked how to get rid of pesky critters. A neighbor who own a garden center said that they use Diatomaceous Earth. Well – that seemed to me to be a golden opportunity to reveal my little secret to the world – that I have been eating Diatomaceous Earth for about a year now.
D.E. has many beneficial effects, but it is the anti-aging effect that I have seen most pronounced as a change in myself. Rather remarkably, since I have been eating D.E., I have stopped needing to bleach myhair. It has gone from a mousy mostly grey to a luscious blond/brown (my pre-65 year old haircolor). I am really happy about this change – as it is saving me tons of money ($300 a pop for tin-foil bleaching). Even my hairdresser is surprised at the change, and keeps telling me how nice the color of my hair is. However, the good news for my hair dresser is that my hair is now growing wildly faster, and so I am able to keep her happy by needing more frequent haircuts.
Diatomaceous Earth is a fossilized deposit of microscopic shells created by one-celled plants called Diatoms. These plants inhabit all the waters of the earth, and serve as the basic food for aquatic life, just as grass is the basic food for land animals. This mineral-based compound contains silicon, magnesium, calcium, sodium, iron and other trace minerals that the body needs to stay healthy. All Diatomaceous Earth is 84% Silicon Dioxide (Silica).
Here is the science behind my peculiar habit of eating this stuff:
Diatomaceous Earth is the hands-down best source of the mineral silica. In 1939, Nobel Prize Doctor Butenant showed the importance of silica for life itself. It may be true that silica is the most important trace element in humanhealth. Silica plays an important role in many body functions. The human body holds approximately seven grams of silica, a quantity far exceeding the figures for other important minerals. Years ago, the silica found in our foodstuffs was adequate for our needs. But with today’s hybrids and depleted soils, only about 1/3 of the silica needed is supplied in our food.?
Diatomaceous Earth looks like a cylinder full of holes–kind of like Rice Chex Cereal. This cylinder has a very strong negative charge while pathogens have a positive charge. As these millions of cylinders move through thestomachand digestive tract, they attract and absorb fungi, protozoa, viruses, endotoxins, pesticides and drug residues, E-Coli, and heavy metals. These are trapped inside the cylinder and passed out of the body. In addition, any larger parasites that happen to be in the stomach or digestive tract are “cut up” and killed by the sharp edges of the diatomaceous earth. All of these activities result in a much healthier body with less sickness.?
The spa that I own, La Casa Day Spa (http://www.Lacasaspa.com) in Manhattan, emphasizes therapies thatdetoxthe body. Last month, we wrote our 50,000th receipt. That’s 50,000 detox treatments we have done in 18 years, a lion’s share of those being colonics. We want allpeopleto continue to have colonics because colonics give a thorough cleansing of thecolon. But we also want people to know how to continue colon cleansing athome. D.E. is the perfect home remedy.
Diatomaceous Earth is?very?hard. On the hardness scale where diamonds are a 9, Diatomaceous Earth is a 7. This hardness is important because as those millions of tiny hard and sharp diatomaceous earth cylinders pass through the small and large intestines, they “scrub” the walls. After only a few months of taking Diatomaceous Earth, the intestine wall is no longer coated with mucus and molds but has become clean. The advantages of this are several:
-regularizes bowel movements (this is the most frequently mentioned benefit about D.E.)
-creates a healthier colon environment (a cleaner colon helps to keep away polyps, cancers,
-gives increasedenergyand less need for sleep (with a cleaner colon, food and nutrients are
better absorbed into thebloodstream)
-reducesinflammationof the intestinal tract (can prevent or clear up diarrhea and, rather
intelligently, also cures the opposite condition of constipation)
-helps to normalize hemorrhoidal tissues
-alleviates lower back pain that is caused by a too-full colon
Over-All Health Benefits:
-helps repair and maintain vital lung tissues and protects them from pollution
-lowers high blood pressure
-lowers high cholesterol
-addresses osteoporosis?& joint problems
-acts as a cough decreasing agent; tones the upper respiratory tract (nose, pharynx, larynx)
and reduces swelling because of its positive action on the lymphatic system
-helps to prevent many unwanted side-effects of menopause?
-helps to prevent kidney stones
-heals infections of the urinary tract; is a natural diuretic which can increase excretion of
urine by 30 percent, thus flushing the water-excreting system and restoring normal
function to these vital organs
-effective with female discharge, abscesses and ulcers in the genital area and cervix, as well
as mastitis (especially for breast feeding mothers).
-acts as a supportive treatment for inflammation of the middle ear (effective in reducing
swelling of the lymph nodes in the throat)
-has anti-inflammatory disinfecting, absorbing and odor binding effects
-normalizes circulation and regulates high blood pressure(hypertension)
-decreases vertigo, headache, tinnitus (buzzing of the ears) and insomnia
-promotes synthesis of elastase inhibitor by the pancreas, thus helping to normalize diabetes
-strengthens blood vessels
-helps to prevent Tuberculosis.
-improves the elasticity of the joints; helps rheumatism
-stimulates metabolism for higher energy levels
One of thebenefitsof silica is that it helps to destroy bad fats. Taken in the morning, it helps to curb appetite throughout the day.
Hair (90 micrograms per gram) needs almost as much silica as bone (100 micrograms per gram). Eating D.E., with its rich supply of silica, should be part of any ongoing hair revitalization program. Silica helps to prevent baldness, stimulates healthier hair growth and assures beautiful shine, luster andstrength.
D.E. serves as nature’s internal cosmetic for skin, nails andteethas well as hair.?Collagen underneath theskinenhances elasticity and beauty. Collagen is largely made up of silica. As we age, tissue degeneration?accelerates because our connective tissue begins to lose the ability to retain moisture. Silica helps to slow down the degenerative/moisture-losing process ofagingconnective tissue.?
Silica also protects our teeth and gums. By hardening the enamel, silica prevents cavities and preserves teeth. Silica also helps to prevent bleeding gums, gum atrophy, and recession.
Finally, silica can help avoid or alleviate Alzheimer’s by preventing the body from absorbing aluminum.

(NaturalNews) Bromelain is a natural digestive enzyme extracted from pineapples. The nutrient is rapidly taking its place aside many of the most powerful natural agents in the war on cancer and other chronic conditions that take the lives of millions each year. Research published in Cancer Letters explains the protease enzyme exhibits multiple actions including anti-inflammatory and immune cell activation that can deal a powerful blow to cancer development. Include bromelain in your supplemental regimen to benefit from the potent anti-cancer properties now attributed to this amazing pineapple enzyme.
Similar to super nutrients such as resveratrol, curcumin and green tea extract, bromelain is a potent compound that fights cancer by dissolving unnecessary tissue throughout the body. Bromelain breaks down scar tissue and other debris created from the natural processes of stress and physical wear and tear that develop with normal cellular function. As we age, our body has a reduced capacity to eliminate these garbage byproducts from within our cells and we undergo the process of advanced aging.
Enzymes such as bromelain are critical to break down proteins used to drive metabolic functions within the body. Processed and overcooked foods have been stripped of the natural enzymes that originally existed, and the pancreas is forced to work beyond its capacity to break down digested proteins. Cancer cells also use a protein shield to cloak themselves and avoid detection from the immune system. Protease enzymes help destroy the protein bond around cancer clusters so the body can destroy developing tumor wall structures and thwart cancer initiation.
